WebCamp 2010

The WebCamp 2010 first specialized conference was held in bounds of the Odessa FOSS Fest at April. 30 – May, 1, 2010.

Program consisted of two parts: official and informal.

More than 200 participants took part in the official part of WebCamp 2010, including leading specialists in open web-technologies from such companies, as Yandex, Mozilla, ShvetsGroup, iPark Ventures, Seolib.com.ua, and [Root@UA]Media, as far as representatives of the Ukrainian FOSS community. In three sections: web-technologies and project management; usability and design; Internet-marketing, they had acquainted listeners with new standards, such as CSS3 and HTML5, shared their experience in creating and managing large community-driven projects (taking the Mozilla community and its products, web-browser and mail client as an example), told about hardships of managing high-evolving international projects, and shown how to manage projects correctly, when the most lazy troll can evolve from one-man studio to ten-projects business without bursting and going conscienceless. Were reviewed and demonstrated abilities of such website creation systems as TYPO3 and Google App Engine. Going deep into development topics, programmers acquainted audithoria with yandex services and API for web-developers, and presented CURL library at developing web applications on PHP. SEO specialists explained quality demands of the search engines to websites, sales dependance on text content for commercial sites, as far as usability problems to frighten potential customer.

The informal part of WebCamp 2010 — April FOSS Fest was held at “Odessa” training base of climbing and alpinism, on the very Black Sea shore.

Fine weather, shashliks, climbing made maximal productive rest and communication.
